Issues and complaints

I’ve been getting a lot of email about the changes with AirWX, and i’d like to address them here.

“Why is nothing showing up (not loading, where are my favorites…etc…etc)?”

All your old favorites from AirWX version 2.x could not be carried over to the new app. Mainly because I haven’t updated AirWX in about 4 years and the changes I wanted to make were so different that I couldn’t carry over the old data.

You will have to add these favorites back. Here’s are step by step instructions on how to do this:

  1. Click on the Search box
  2. Type in an airport code. (KJFK, for example). (Or press that little arrow button on the right. That button will use your location to find the nearest airports).
  3. After typing or pressing the arrow the list will update with airports:
  4. Press on that “+” button to add to your favorites. It will automatically change to a minus sign to let you know “The airport has been added, you can change your mind if you press the “-” sign now.
  5. After you are done typing and adding favorites, press that little checkmark on the top right of the screen to go back to the main screen.

How to e-mail support if you have an issue in the future?

99% of the emails i get are one liners like this “It’s broken”, or “nothing is loading”. Literally thats all I get. I assume that a majority of AirWX users are pilots. I’m sure that a good percentage of you also had to write up a squawk (an issue with the aircraft you are flying). Imagine for a second you write to your mechanic “Wont start”, or “it’s broken”. How do you think they would react in that situation?

My point is, I NEED MORE DETAIL to help you with your problem! Be as specific as possible. For example, “The application isn’t working correctly. When I installed it for the first time the application showed nothing on the screen. I tried to search for something by typing in “KJFK” but nothing changed on the screen.” – From a quick description like that I can easily reply with a list of things to try and find a solution.

“Why are features missing?”, “The old version was so much better, how could you have done this to me?!”, “Give me back the old version!”

First off I’d like to address the missing features. For the past 6 months (before updating to the new version of AirWX) I’ve been getting non stop emails about how AirWX is broken. People have been rating the app poorly that it hasn’t been updated in many years. Winds aloft and TAFs have been crashing the app. I finally got enough time (AirWX is a side project i do for FUN, i make a living in other ways), and decided to update AirWX by deleting all the old code and starting fresh. It took me 3 months to get to where we are today. Three months of time on weekends, evenings, and whenever i had an extra 15 minutes here and there. Finally I wanted to get this working version out as soon as possible and decided to hold the release of features that got used the least (and release those in a future version). Features like the E6B, or the, never updated, Sectional Charts…these could wait a few more weeks. So I haven’t removed anything, everything will be back to how it was. It will just take a little time. I ask again that everyone be patient.

Secondly, I want to remind all my users, i’m not charging you anything extra for the additional work I am doing. I’ve put in many hours into the rewrite, and when I get emails about how angry you are that I took away features, or changed the app because the old one was so perfect, this makes me want to drop the whole thing altogether. Just a reminder here again, I built AirWX for myself (and for FUN) and I have no problem with never releasing a new update ever again.

In conclusion, I want to make sure everyone is happy, even though that’s probably impossible. So if you have any problems, please contact me in a reasonable tone and manner and let me know how I can help you.

Thanks for using AirWX, and I hope you enjoy it.
